Solar Heating

I really would love to hear some feed back from anyone who has added Solar Heating to their home. Looks like a minefield with so many different prices and statements.

Calpe

We bought a house with solar power and we are trying to get on the Iberdrola grid because it is a bit of a pain when the weather isn´t so good (as at the moment). I believe that the previous owners spent somewhere in the region of 25,000€ to install the system, which included 12 large batteries, approximately 6-8 years ago. We have had to replace the batteries at a cost of around 3000€ as the shed they are stored in has insufficient ventilation and they deteriorated much quicker than anticipated (apparently the life of the batteries is 10 years). So if you take that into account and spent 25000€, it would probably be the value of at least 20 years´ electricity. Therefore, I wouldn´t recommend it.

Hi Ian,
Solar heating is difficult because so much hot water has to be stored for use at night.
I run a combination of solar / and wood burner with back boiler
solar for the day and back boiler at night.

The hot water is circulated though underfloor heating, which is a concrete floor slab, with plastic water pipes in with insulation below

It gives a good back ground heat and the floor slab acts as a storage radiator.

But if you are not doing it in on a new build or major reform its not normally practical to install.

Cheers Tony

We are coming up to stay for a few weeks over Christmas and New Year. Could someone give us a few pointers as to restaurants and most importantly where is there any entertainment locally?

COSTA BLANCA OPTICIANS’ CHARITY CHAIN

Press Release
Specsavers Opticas in Torrevieja are welcoming donations of canned food and children’s toys on behalf of Torrevieja Lions Club

Help us to help a charity this Christmas
A Specsavers customer gives a donation to the Costa wide charity appeal

Throughout December, all five Specsavers Opticas stores on the Costa Blanca are taking part in a Christmas charity appeal to provide food, clothing and gifts to children and families who may otherwise go without. All stores will be acting as drop off points for donations on behalf of various local charities.

Business Development Manager, José Ángel Moral-Tajadura tells us “Supporting charitable causes this Christmas is important to us with many families on the Costa Blanca feeling the effects of the recession, not to mention children in care who need our help to have a happy Christmas.

Our stores are passionate about their chosen charities and are all doing their bit to encourage donations.”

Specsavers Opticas in Benidorm, Calpe and Javea are taking part in the annual Toy Drive campaign for The Friends of the Children of EMAUS, a completely voluntary group of individuals, based in the Northern Costa Blanca, whose purpose is to raise much-needed funds for the children in the EMAÚS children’s shelters.

Their toy drive will provide presents for the Children of EMAUS spending this Christmas in care and the stores are urging locals to donate new, unwrapped toys, board games, gifts and clothes.

Carole Saunders from the charity says “People needn’t spend much, even something simple such as a woolly hat or some colouring books would make lovely gifts for the children of EMAUS.”

It's Come to Life

Good Day
I just would like to say how nice it is to see that the Calpe forum has suddenly come to life.
I sincerely hope both businesses and just general people will start using it. For my part it would be lovely to be able to come on to the forum for a chat or to find out different things, or to discuss any
problems that arise.

I have also noticed on a couple of the other areas on this forum that Businesses ie restaurants etc that are having special evenings put these in to the Events Section (listed at the top of the page). It would be very handy to find out what is going on in our Calpe area.

I was very happy to see that John has put two of his special evenings in to the Events Section (top of the page).

I very much look forward to seeing a lot more of the various artists etc advertising up here.
Good Luck John for 14th December. I hope a lot of people come along to see you.

Hi - My name is Sly and I've just found this Calpe forum.

Is it true that I can actually put links up here free of charge (unlike other forums) where you cannot promote your business?

Helping Local Charities........

The Posting below is a copy of what was put on to the La Marina Forum yesterday from IMPACT CHARITY.
It just gives you a little bit of an idea of how useful these forums are when used by the local Charities

As a charity advertising on this forum it has done great things for the charity. We have had house clearances, monetary donations and more things donated to the shop in general. We are a charity and things are donated for free but we have received many things because of this website.
Along with SATS and another couple of Charities who advertise on here I'm very surprised you do not have other local charities on here advertising. There is the odd occasion when charities are put under scrutiny on here and nasty stuff said but it does not come close to the amount of stuff Impact Charity has received from advertising on this site.
