Animal Lovers

What is it with these 'animal lovers' who adopt a dog from a rescue and say they will give it a good life, then take it home and leave it on their porch all day while they are at work. They come home in the evening and leave it outside on its own again. Then off for a night out and the poor animals are left again, they howl and bark for some attention but never get any, its pitiful. Have they only got them as cheap burglar alarms? The dogs would be better off left in the pound. These people should be ashamed. It is so sad. They could not get away with it in the UK.

I will never understand people and dogs, they lick their ass (the dog that is) and then are allowed to lick your face (the people that is ) now thats got to be wrong,

The neighbors (Spanish) are out practically all day; their dogs bark & bark & bark, for some odd reason especially in the late evenings, they even c**p all over the front of the house. I have spoken to them about the c**p and they clean up but sometimes just leave it for a day or two. Apart from taking it up with the community president, is there another avenue to complain about this? It is driving us bonkers!

CALPE BOWLS CLUB

In our first match of the season this year we were up against the League champions from the last two years, Benitachell Lions and although we had home advantage they were too good for us on the day.The overall result was Calpe 57 shots – Lions 75 shots; only 18 shots difference but the Lions certainly got the lion´s share of the League points 8-2 .

With a bit of luck it could have been different. Kate Sayers, with Liz Griffiths and Martin Tucker were cruising, and deservedly so at 15 – 10 up after 12 ends when the wheels came off . After 17 ends they were 15 – 23 down. A minor recovery on the last end made it 17 – 23.

Stan Walmsley, with Alan Steed and Glenda Rowe took far too long to get into the game and lost the first four ends to trail 12 – 0. The latter stages ,however, were fairly even but the superb team bowling of Carole,Feli and Lynda from the Lions carried them to a deserved 22 – 9 win.

Captain Paul Brown with Eileen Whitmore and Tony Sayers got off to a better start and were level 8 – 8 at the half way mark but the Lions just got the advantage in the second half to run out winners 16 – 11.

Our only success story came from Alan Edwards playing with wife Alison and Enid Duxbury. They won four of the first five ends to establish a nice 9 – 2 lead then built on this to lead 19 – 9 after 16 ends. Dropping five shots on the penultimate end didn´t help but they rallied to take the last to finish 20 – 14 : very well done!

In our mid-week match against Harrow BC touring team we fared much better winning by 25 shots ( 78 – 53 )

Alan,Alison and Enid, playing with Robert Daplyn must have been thinking about their previous days win and they didn´t start playing properly until the seventh end. When they hit form however they took eight consecutive ends to lead 20 – 7 and ran out 24 – 10 winners.

Kate Sayers with Tony,Sheila Garnham and Betty Walmsley started off slowly and were only level 3 – 3 after 5 ends . In the next 13 ends however their class shone through and they only dropped four shots over three ends to won easily 21 – 7.

Martin Tucker skippered Barry and Glenda Rowe and Eileen Whitmore in a very tight game. They fought really hard and were never trailing in the match until they dropped four shots on the penultimate end to go behind 15 – 17. Showing true bulldog spirit they bowled really well to take three shots on the last end to win by one.

It would have been nice to win all four rinks and it certainly looked as though we would but it was not to be.Paul Brown with Yvonne Daplyn,Liz Griffiths and Alan Steed started off really well and were 11 – 5 up after ten ends. Then what happened ? They dropped seven shots on the eleventh end and then the next five ends to trail 11 – 18 before recovering to 15 – 19

Next week sees us playing another touring team from Wales and then a visit to Benitachell in the League. Thankfully its not the Lions again but it will still be a tough one.

Residencia Certificate to be replaced

I saw this Article, its from back in May, does anyone know if this is true or not?

Residents' certificate replaced

By Nuria Pérez and Dave Jones

A NEW card for expats is being issued by the government to replace green EU residents' certificate.

National police explained it will be a smaller size - measuring 8.6cm by 5.4 cm - and is designed to be portable.

A National Police spokeswoman said: "This will make life much easier for EU citizens. The new one will fit in a wallet and does not tear like the previous one."

It responds to the call from EU citizens for change, she added.

However the initiative falls short of providing photographic ID which would enable expats to leave their passports at home. The National Police spokeswoman said the Spanish authorities are not allowed to issue ID cards to EU nationals.

"We would be breaking the directive governing the free movement of EU residents within Europe," she said. "According to this directive EU residents do not have to apply for a residence license and therefore the former residence card had to be replaced with the certificate. She added: "ID cards or passports issued by EU countries are fully acknowledged in all member states."

The smaller certificate is currently being piloted in the region of Castilla y León. It will be introduced progressively in all other regions.

I look forward to when they do make up there minds.

Local Calpe Brits help in bleak midwinter

COSTA BLANCA charity EMAUS is facing a bleak midwinter as it struggled against the chill caused by the ongoing economic crisis.

Based in Altea, the 32-year-old charity has plunged into debt as funding from the Valencia Government has all but dried up – it is understood EMAUS is owed hundreds of thousands of euros to pay salaries and bills.
RTN was told it is being forced to live hand to mouth with donations from generous British expat charities and individuals helping to keep it going.

EMAUS is perhaps best known for its nine children’s homes across the region where youngsters are in family-type units looked after by social workers.

However, it also runs an old people’s home, sheltered accommodation, a woman’s shelter, a home for the handicapped, and has a specialist team dedicated to trying to reunite children with their real families.
In total, there are around 300 people employed by EMAUS and some have not been paid for five months.

Local politician Carole Saunders – who is also President of Friends of the Children of EMAUS – said: “The situation is absolutely scandalous, something like 2.7 million euros is owed by Valencia. It is a terrible situation.”

APPEAL

Valencia has appealed for financial help from Madrid but the support is being drop fed – and is the reason people like the pharmacists have still to be fully paid.

“EMAUS did receive 100,000€ which paid a month’s salary to the social workers and a month’s worth of bills at the children’s homes,” said Carole. “But they have not been paid for five months now.

“And it is inevitable that some of the staff are having to look for new jobs, others are living back with their parents.”

She explained that EMAUS received a payment for each of the children it cared for. “However, everything is supposed to come out of that, including the wages of social workers.

“And EMAUS has always considered the number of social workers Valencia is willing to pay for is insufficient – this has always been a problem, a lack of money means cutting back on staff numbers.”

Carole, a councillor at Calpe Town Hall, said she and EMAUS President Montserrat Fiter were planning to appeal directly to Madrid for help.

This is all about you and what makes you feel happy, which in turn, when others read will bring enlightenment to them and make them think about what makes them happy too. Like attracts like! Therefore positivity attracts positivity.
